Many residents are soldiers stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base (EAFB), located on the north end of Box Elder. EAFB personnel takes pride in creating local job opportunities. The total annual economic impact of EAFB on Black Hills surrounding communities reached nearly $353 million in 2011.
Meanwhile, Ellsworth Airmen remained engaged in combat operations overseas that same year. Ellsworth’s B-1s flew more than 15,000 hours, with a mission effectiveness rate of 98.83 percent. They filled 3,000 Joint Tactical Air Requests and responded to 432 troops-in-contact situations, providing B-1 top cover to American Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines under enemy fire in Afghanistan.
“Ellsworth and its Airmen continue to benefit from an atmosphere of mutual respect and economic progress with our community partners throughout the Black Hills. As the largest employer in the West River region and the second largest employer in the state, we take great pride in the tremendous positive influence we have made –and continue to make –since our humble beginnings in 1942. We are extremely proud of the thriving relationship we enjoy with our neighbors and look forward to continuing our legacy of providing significant, positive economic influence for many years to come.”

This is a wonderful school and they have some of the best teachers around. I am glad my son is able to attend this excellent school. The school provides an excellent curriculum that includes computer classes, art, music, physical education, and a gifted program. – submitted by a parent @ Francis Case Elementary (www.greatschools.org)
We love Douglas Middle School! My daughter is a 7th grade student at Douglas and loves being there. The teachers are very attentive with each students teaching needs. My daughter is on an IEP. As soon as we enrolled her with all the proper documentation, it took no time at all to get her in the classes to accommodate her special needs!! The kids love their Principal and he’s always involved with the kids after school activities. He’s always at a game cheering them on!! This school doesn’t tolerate bullying of any kind!! Kids are constantly reminded about our school being a tobacco & drug free environment! The sports we have in the school are also amazing!! As a parent of two children, I highly recommend this school. Not only did we move to Box Elder to enroll our kids in the school District for the best education, so did 3 other families we know!!! GO PATRIOTS!! – submitted by a parent @ Douglas Middle School (www.greatschools.org)
