Past, Present, Future
Rimrock area has been a suburb of Rapid City since the construction of the Black Hills and Western Railroad in the late 19th century, built along Rapid Creek between Rapid City and Mystic to connect to the Black Hills Highline. Today, an estimated 15,000 people live year-round in the area, most whom work in Rapid City. Development has not subsided in the last few years, making Rimrock a desirable area.
Johnson Siding, located along Hwy 44, is considered Rimrock’s “downtown” destination, where residents can browse around at the general store, gas up at the service station or dine out at the Musecamps Grill & Pub. Downtown also includes a motel and other businesses, including the Rimrock Community Center. Many residents of the area attend the popular Rimrock Church, also located along the highway, but divided from downtown by Norris Peak Road.
Turn north on Norris Peak, pass the pole of battered boots, discover the beautiful park tucked down along Rapid Creek, and continue north until you reach Nemo Road. (link to NEMO page) Learn more about Johnson Siding.
